Seeking Your Purpose

| December 21, 2018

It has been an amazing year! How is it, though, that every year seems to go by faster and faster? Sometimes it feels as if you look up after the year has started and it is already over. We read a quote by John F. Kennedy this morning….

Efforts and courage are not enough without purpose and direction.

Perhaps this is the reason why we feel like this at times. Our efforts are great. Our courage may not lack an ounce. But perhaps our purpose and direction are shifting out of focus.

This last week of the year is always a time for us to reflect on everything that has occurred and everything you want to achieve come the New Year. So we have a little exercise we want to share with you to help make sure your purpose and direction stay in focus throughout the New Year.

Imagine you are sitting in your favorite place your last day on earth. What will you reflect upon? What kind of life did you live? What did you accomplish? What kind of person did you become? What stories will your family share about you? What legacy did you leave in the hearts of your children and grandchildren?

Several years ago, we wrote about “Unacceptable Regrets.” These are the regrets you could develop if you don’t do something to rectify them. So, next, think about this for a minute: If this were your last day on earth, what would you absolutely not want to regret?

We have had the opportunity to work with a coach through The Strategic Coach® this year. During the first session, we used a tool called The Lifetime Extender®. This apparently simple tool was incredibly powerful. It took you from your present self and all the things you think are important now, to your future self and all the things that really are important.

None of us want to wake up one day and say, “What happened with all of those years?” Nor do we want to have regrets. We don’t want to leave a blank slate behind. God put us here with purpose. It is our responsibility to seek it and be it.

As the end of the year approaches, we challenge you to seek your purpose and pursue it so that you don’t have another rat race in 2019. Find your direction and focus your efforts and courage there and only there to make it the best year ever!

May God bless you in your journey through this New Year!
