The Digital Wrangler®’s Business Succession Playbook™ provides a comprehensive, digital framework to help solopreneurs and small business owners organize their vital business information. An overview video of the Business Succession Playbook™ is available on YouTube here.
Why Did Kate Create the Business Succession Playbook™?
As a business owner myself, I was losing sleep at the possibility of having my husband navigate my death while he takes over household operations, cares for his elderly parents (and mine), supports his adult children, continues to work his full-time government job, not to mention settle my complex estate. If I should pass away unexpectedly in the next decade, I know this will be a lot to ask of him. To add to this already overwhelming pile, he is (currently) my business successor. We had a very enlightening and eye-opening discussion during the week of Christmas 2022 which inspired me to do everything I possibly can to set him up for success. After collaborating and supporting a dozen or so small business owners in a variety of industries, in July 2024, the Business Succession Playbook™ was launched.

- Why should I organize important business information? Regardless of the industry a business supports, every business today is a digital business. With countless online/digital accounts to support a business, Successors won’t know what the business relies on unless they are provided this information ahead of time, or have the ability to access it with ease.
- Solopreneurs and small business owners (<10 employees) assume that a loved one will step in to run the business. According to the Cost of Dying Report, the financial, time, emotional and/or mental burdens associated with the loss of a loved one can be extensive. Will your loved one(s) have the capacity, desire, ability and knowledge to run your business, or gracefully shut it down if that’s what you want? Make it easier for your Successor and/or loved one(s) by having your business information organized.
- Businesses now have the ability to earn passive/residual income through the monetization of social socials, selling of digital products, earning affiliate and/or referral income. As a result, it’s vital for Successors to know the ins-and-outs of revenue sources and the systems and accounts associated with those revenue streams.
- Even when a business owner becomes incapacitated or passes away, the business will still exist. This means the Successor will need to file taxes, notify clients and customers, along with any employees and/or contractors, make updates to the company’s website and online presence and so much more.
- The benefits solopreneurs and small business owners will receive after organizing their business details include:
- Profound sense of peace that they have organized all aspects of their business to make things easier for their Successor.
- High sense of confidence that their Successor will have all the information they need to execute their business succession plan.
- Tremendous gratitude as they will discover how many actions their Successor will need to take in order to successfully implement the business succession plan.
